A 39th Anniversary Calls For A Vacation To The Pacific N/W!

My husband and I flew into Seattle, Washington, rented a BMW and drove down Highway

101 to San Francisco. We saw manmade structures like the 605’ tall Seattle Space Needle, built for the 1962 World’s Fair, and the breathtaking artwork at the Chihuly Glass Museum.

God blessed us with beautiful weather and a perfect view of Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens.

We saw massive Gray Whales in Puget Sound, spouting high in the air and munching on ghost shrimps. I loved watching the playful sealions at Oregon’s Sealion Caves. And the Oregon coastline was pure beauty to behold.

The most memorable part of the whole vacation was standing amongst the tallest trees in the world. It was truly a spiritual moment. God has blessed us with these few remaining Redwoods, and we need to do everything in our power to preserve them.

Redwood Facts

  • Coast Redwoods are only found in California and southwestern Oregon

  • The area where they grow is a temperate rainforest

  • Fog plays a vital role in their survival

  • They can grow 2-3’ annually

  • Average lifespan is between 500-700 years but can live more than 2,000 years

  • They can grow to over 360 feet tall

I would later learn that when we traveled through Humboldt County in CA, we passed by the tallest known tree in the world, Hyperion! This famous tree is 380.8’ tall and is estimated to be between 600-800 years old. As of 2022 the tree is no longer open for public viewing to protect it from further visitor damage. Trespassers risk a $5,000 fine.

HYPERION!

I could show you tons more vacation pics, but I won’t. You’re welcome. I’m looking forward to our 40th anniversary!
